Don’t waste another minute! Get your New Year resolutions in full swing, starting with your apartment. Keep reading for suggestions on how to maximize your time and budget in 2019 and take apartment living to the fullest:
Make a difference this year by reducing both your carbon footprint and your electricity bill. The easiest way to reduce energy consumption is to ensure that appliances and electronics are unplugged when not in use. Before going to bed, do a quick walkthrough of your home to unplug and shut down all unused items for the evening (on plugging them back in upon the nest use). Another effective way to reduce your electricity bill is to opt for efficient light bulbs – LED bulbs, for example, use 75% less energy than the standard light. Finally, and this may seem like a no-brainer, turn off your lights! Anytime you leave a room, take a moment to flip the switch and avoid wasting electricity.
What better way to prep your apartment for the New Year than ridding your space of clutter that has built up in the past year! Although this may seem like a simple task, there is a definite strategy in order to maximize your time and efforts when purging and organizing time in your apartment. Firstly, ensure that you have an adequate period of time set aside to invest in decluttering – this will prevent you from rushing and allow you to think through your decisions. Next, implement the ‘spark joy’ rule – through which you evaluate each item on its necessity as well as whether or not it brings you happiness. If not, discard!
Start your year off productively by crossing off one or more of the projects building up on your list. Whether you give your bathroom a mini makeover, dusting the tops of your cupboards, installing a water filter, or any other affordable and time-sensitive project. Completing a project in full will allow you to remove it from your to-do list entirely and motivate you to continue.
Protect your apartment from electrical fires by installing smart plugs and timers onto potentially hazardous appliances such as hair straighteners, irons, hot plates, etc. This will ensure that they were shut off when not in use. Installing a security system I in the entrance of your apartment will allow you to monitor activity within while you’re away (or in another room). Opt for a system that connects to your smartphone, recording HD videos and recognizing faces – as to identify unwanted visitors. Finally, your home automation device can serve as a deterrent to unwanted visitors while you’re not home by making it sound lived in. Specifically, the Burglar Deterrent will play noises such as dog barks and in-home activity at random times throughout the day.
In order to eliminate stress of living costs associated with your apartment, create a budget to manage rent, home décor, and maintenance, etc. This will allow you to save money for the future or invest in activities and pastimes without worrying about surpassing your limit.
