Bundle up, Ottawa! Winter is right around the corner again— and like always, it’s going to be a cold one. We know Ottawa has a bad reputation when it comes to their chilly winter season, but if you can “weather” out the cold, there are tons of great activities to partake in.

Here’s how to get ready for an amazing winter in Ottawa.

Get your skates sharpened

One of the most popular things to do during winter in Ottawa is skating along the Rideau Canal. With 7.8km of ice, the Canal is sure to keep you busy for at least an afternoon this winter.

Choose a weekend to go skating with a group of friends or loved one. Don’t forget to sharpen those skates, pull out your hat and mittens, and grab a warm drink before you head out onto the ice!

Bonus: The Rideau Canal is a short walk away from Cartier Square Apartments!

Buy an Ottawa Senators jersey

Hockey is one of Canada’s greatest pastimes, and since you’re living in the country’s capital, you should embrace it! Hockey games are a great way to show your Canadian pride, enjoy winter months in Ottawa, and just have an all around great evening.

Check out when the Senators play next, pick up your tickets and head to the Canadian Tire Centre for a dose of good old-fashioned Ottawa winter.

Look up the closest Beaver Tail location

Did you know that the first Beaver Tail shop was opened in 1980 in Ottawa? If that isn’t enough of a reason to enjoy one of these delicious pastries this winter, we don’t know what is!

Today, you can find Beaver Tail Shops all around Ottawa—we suggest checking out the Rideau Canal and Byward Market Square locations.

Dreaming of living near Byward Market? Riverview Place is just a short walk away – inquire today!

Check out the Winterlude 2017 schedule

Come out and enjoy all that is winter in Ottawa! Winterlude has been celebrated across the city for over 3 decades, each year becoming more successful than the last. From February 3 – 20, 2017, you can partake in various winter activities such as ice sculptures, skating and more!

Get your skis shined up

Whether you prefer downhill or cross-country skiing, Ottawa has plenty of options to choose from. The city features over 200km of trails throughout for cross country skiing—most of which are free to use!

As for downhill, the Ottawa-Gatineau region is known to be one of the best locations for skiers. There are plenty of hills for any skill level that are only a short drive from the downtown core, including Mooney’s Bay, Camp Fortune and Gatineau Park.

Take your pick!

This winter is going to be another cold one, but with so many great events and activities happening throughout the city, it’s easy to enjoy the season despite the weather!
