Hello Ottawa students! We know that midterms are almost in full swing, which means stress levels are increasing.

But on the other, more exciting hand, midterms also mean reading week is coming up.

Are you staying in Ottawa this reading week and searching for something to do that doesn't go over your budget? We've been there. Here is a list of ways to have fun this reading week without breaking the bank:

Host a Netflix marathon

We all know many study sessions somehow end up in a Netflix marathon anyways, so why not invite your friends?

After a morning of studying, invite a group of friends over to your apartment and pick your favourite TV show to marathon watch. This way you don't need to go out and spend money to have fun!

Budgeting tip: get your friends to each bring a snack to save on food costs!

The Ministry of Coffee is only a few short minutes away from Elgin Square Apartments in downtown Ottawa. All their food is made in house and coffee selection rotated weekly from a well curated list of the best roasters from all over the world. This café makes for a great reading week spot.

Skating – fun for you AND your wallet

Exploring Ottawa on a student budget? No problem. One of the best things to do in the winter in Ottawa is to go for a skate along the gorgeous Rideau Canal.

Grab a few of your friends, get bundled up in your coziest clothes and enjoy an afternoon of fun that is absolutely free!

Bonus: The Rideau Canal is walking distance away from Riverview Apartments!

Have a study party

If you're really stressing over school, then have some classmates over and hit the books. After all, Reading week is technically meant for reading.

Have a good time while you study by playing some light music in the background, create flashcards to quiz each other or make your own studying game!

Apartment tip: when you're having people over and you don't have enough chairs, use throw pillows as seats! Cute and comfortable.

Whether you choose to stay in your apartment or explore some Ottawa spots this reading week, these tips will keep you and your budget happy!
