Introducing our newest monthly blog feature shining the light on Ottawa's hottest urban neighborhoods.

She’s cool. She’s creative. She’s Centretown. Downtown Ottawa’s neighbour to the south is a veritable mecca of wholesome food, independant shops, and enough crazy cocktails to fill the canal. Residential living weaves in close proximity to commercial mainstays, such as Babylon, The Manx, and Herb and Spice, and this part of town is brimming with dimly lit bars and great venues filled with attractive and, often, thirsty patrons.

Local Highlights

Bread and Sons

Ideally located mere steps away from Wallack’s on Bank, Bread and Sons attracts a following of both carb and caffeine lovers alike. This narrow shop is not built for lingering, but its charms lay in the buttery baked goods that line the wall. For lunch they serve up, paper-thin and inventive pizzas, which often garner a crowd that lines up out the door.

Union 613

This Ottawa haunt is steeped in all things hipster--from communal seating and repurposed mason jars, to a hefty use of bourbon and southern standards featured on their menu. Between atmosphere, eats, and drinks, it’s hard to narrow down the best thing about Union, that is until you venture into their SpeakEasy and suddenly the answer is clear.

Vintage and Flowers

For the ultimate green experience, Vintage and Flowers is wall-to-wall loveliness in the most unassuming of locations. Nestled in a corner on Somerset and Lyon, walking into the shop is like presenting a sort of haven for your senses, where you can’t help but stop and smell the roses, while also purusing vintage treasure. Recently, they’ve added a bridal element to the mix so you’re not-so-average couple can aquire not-so-average attire and floral arrangements.
